Android CountDown Timer With Just Maths

Just Maths app has a timer which is used to track the time in which user has to answer as many questions as possible with either Yes or No option. We will create a timer which ticks every second as a countdown timer or stopwatch. This is going to be a simple timer implemented using the Handler in Android.

Apps require inputs from the user to take action. Generally, you will have a button that starts processing the user input. So let's begin our discussion about Android Button Click Event and Event Handlers. When you click a button, click event is generated as an object. Relative Layout and Just Maths Screen Layouts

In the previous post, we looked at Linear Layout . There is another layout which is extremely helpful and flexible in designing good looking apps i.e. Relative Layout. This layout arranges your views relative to its parent or other child views. You can say something like - align this TextView to the left of EditText or align this Button below EditText. To position views inside Relative Layout, child views have to specify layout attributes which align them inside relative layout. If you do not specify any layout attributes for child views, all the child views will be aligned at the top-left corner of the relative layout.

Font Awesome With Android

If your app uses icons then you must be aware of the fact that Android requires you to provide icons for various densities such as HDPI, MDPI, XHDPI etc. Designing icons for these densities is an added effort. To avoid this additional effort, you can take advantage of the libraries available. One such library is Font Awesome . Great android apps require great design. For great design you need to master layouts. Layout is one of the basic building block of Android User Interface. Lets jump right in and try designing layout for our app - Just Maths. Just Maths has 3 screens - Main Menu Screen, Game Screen and Score Screen. Each of the screen is designed using Relative Layout and Linear Layout. There are other layouts as well like Frame Layout, Table Layout and Grid Layout. But you can design anything using only Relative Layout and Linear Layout. These layouts are nothing but View Groups.

Let's start creating our first app - Just Maths. This will be a small app to introduce you to the various aspects of Android App Development - starting with activities and layouts. So just jump right in. What is Activity? Activity is just a single screen. Yes it is that simple. So in our case - Main Menu Screen is one activity, Game Screen is another activity and Score Screen is another activity.
